Had Baby, Will Travel.
Guess what?! We had a baby! Our little sidekick's name is Juniper and you'll be seeing a lot of her in the coming days. Now that Juniper is 2 months old, we think it's time for her first INTERNATIONAL TRIP.
You heard that right. We're taking our two-month-old overseas. Here's why:
- Traveling is important to us. It's something that we love to do, and we want our family to continue to travel. So, we're doing the "start 'em young" thing.
- This is the easiest it will ever be. Juniper is not yet moving around - she spends most of the day either being held or laying down. Since she's breastfeeding, we don't need to worry about packing any food. And, she can sleep anywhere, including in the baby carrier while we're on the go.
- Babies are like sponges. When she's not asleep, Juniper is wide-eyed soaking in the world. We want her to see and experience as much of the European culture as possible, including art, architecture, food, language, etc. We know that this trip won't make her fluent, but being surrounded by people speaking French or Italian might leave a lasting impression in her unconscious brain.
- We want to make good use of this time off. My employer is progressive enough to provide PAID maternity leave! Loren's employer (ahem, himself) is also okay with taking some time off, albeit unpaid. Moreover, we probably won't be able to take 2 weeks off for a while, so we wanted to jump at this opportunity to do an extended trip while also bonding with our baby.
And just to be safe/responsible, we got trip insurance in case anything extreme happens and we need to cut it short. We're not going to push our luck...
So, there you have it. Look out, world!
